Privacy Policy – Tukani

Tukani is a language-learning application developed by Open Loops. This Privacy Policy explains what information Tukani collects, how it is used, when it may be shared, and the choices available to users.

1. Information We Collect

Tukani may collect and process the following information:

• Account information: your email address and, when you use Google sign-in, basic account information made available by Google, such as your name or account identifier.
• Learning information: selected course and level, lesson progress, answers, scores, completed activities, streaks, study days, and related timestamps.
• Technical information: basic device, network, request, security, and error information needed to operate, protect, and troubleshoot the service.
• Microphone and speech input: Tukani requests microphone access only when you use speaking activities. Speech audio may be processed by the speech-recognition service available on your device or operating system. Tukani does not intentionally store raw microphone recordings on its servers.

2. How We Use Information

We use information to:

• create and authenticate user accounts;
• deliver lessons and personalized learning plans;
• save progress, scores, streaks, and completed activities;
• provide speaking and pronunciation features;
• send authentication or account-related emails;
• maintain security, prevent abuse, diagnose errors, and improve app reliability;
• comply with legal obligations.

3. Service Providers and Data Sharing

Tukani does not sell personal information. We may share information only as needed with service providers that help us operate the app, such as hosting, database, file-storage, authentication, email-delivery, speech-recognition, and app-distribution providers. These may include Supabase, Google, Resend, and Google Play. We may also disclose information when required by law or when necessary to protect users, Tukani, Open Loops, or the public.

4. Data Storage and Security

Account and learning information may be stored on secure cloud infrastructure. We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards designed to protect information. No online system can guarantee absolute security.

5. Data Retention

We retain account and learning information while your account is active and for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the service, maintain security, resolve disputes, and meet legal obligations. Information may be deleted or anonymized when it is no longer required.

6. Your Choices and Rights

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information by contacting us at the address below. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request. You can also deny or revoke microphone permission through your device settings, although speaking activities may then be unavailable.

7. Children's Privacy

Tukani is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without appropriate authorization. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information, contact us so we can review and take appropriate action.

8. International Processing

Information may be processed in countries other than the country where you live. Those countries may have different data-protection laws. We use service providers and safeguards appropriate to the operation of the service.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when Tukani's features, service providers, or legal obligations change. The updated version will be posted on this page with a revised effective date.
